MARP Project Update!
Our Intercultural and Interfaith insights project is part of the Multiculturalism and Anti-racism program; that’s why we call it MARP! We’re halfway through this exciting and meaningful 12 month project. Perspectives from our diverse community (as represented by the map above) have been carefully collected and documented through interviews, community connections and our survey. The second half of our project is developing Intercultural competency training and resources for our team!
Intercultural and Interfaith Insights:
Enriching Pregnancy and Parenting Support with Cultural Awareness
This project is dedicated to understanding the cultural and religious dimensions of pregnancy and pregnancy loss, birth, postpartum, as well as early parenting. We are researching traditions, expectations, stigmas, and ways of life of the diverse communities that we serve. We want to equip our team, as well as other care providers, with the knowledge and skills needed to deliver culturally sensitive and respectful care for everyone.
Project Initiatives
Initiative #1 – 95% COMPLETE
Understanding Pregnancy and Parenting in Culturally Diverse Landscapes. We will accomplish this by:
- Literature Review – what research and resources already exist?
- Field Research – asking the community what they think through interviews, surveys and focus groups
- Comparative Analysis – what similarities and differences can we see, what unique challenges do clients face? What barriers might exist?
Initiative #2 – IN PROGRESS
Empowering Care Providers in Intercultural and Interfaith Support. We will achieve this by:
- Development of Cultural Competency Training
- Implementation and Evaluation of Cultural Competency Training
- Current and future policy recommendations
Project Goals
Increase Cultural Sensitivity in care practices
Improve Communication between clients and providers
Reduce Support Disparities
Strengthen Community Engagement & Trust
Promote Ethical & Inclusive Practices
